Safe Haven is a game I came across in the 2025
British Informatics Olympiad, which I decided to finish coding and repurpose it to a multiplayer
browser game.
Players play on a square grid, aiming to create the most safe havens of their colour. A square is either empty or controlled by a player.
A Haven is a connected group of controlled squares of any occupancy where all squares are connected. A Safe Haven only contains squares of unique colour.
Move rules:
- A move involves two neighbouring squares controlled by different players. The current player transfers control to the neighbour, making their square empty and the neighbouring square theirs.
- Play alternates starting with Red until no valid moves remain. At the end, all controlled squares form safe havens, and each player counts their safe havens to determine the winner.
